WiFi Compatibility

Most setup problems come down to a Wi-Fi mismatch. Your Friendship Lamp needs a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connection with WPA or WPA2 Personal security, a visible network name (SSID), and the correct password. This guide helps you check each one so your lamp connects first time.

Quick compatibility checklist

  • Your Wi-Fi is 2.4GHz (not 5GHz)
  • Your Wi-Fi security is WPA or WPA2 Personal
  • Your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) is visible (not hidden)
  • Your Wi-Fi password is correct
  • Your router isn't blocking new devices

1. Your Wi-Fi is 2.4GHz, not 5GHz

The Friendship Lamp only works on a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. 2.4GHz has better range and passes through walls more easily than 5GHz, which makes it a better fit for smart home devices. Many modern dual-band routers broadcast both bands under one network name — splitting them into separate SSIDs lets you pick the 2.4GHz one during setup.

2. Your Wi-Fi security is WPA or WPA2 Personal

The Friendship Lamp works with WPA and WPA2 Personal security — both are standard on most home routers. WPA2 Enterprise networks (common in offices and universities) need the lamp's MAC ID registered first. If you're on a college network, see Connecting Your Friendship Lamp at College.

3. Your network name (SSID) is visible

During setup, the LuvLink app scans for Wi-Fi networks and lists them. If your network doesn't show up, it may be hidden. Go into your router settings and make the SSID visible — even just temporarily while you set up the lamp.

4. Your Wi-Fi password is correct

Wi-Fi passwords are case-sensitive. One wrong letter — upper or lower case — and the setup will fail. The LuvLink app has a password visibility toggle (the eye icon) so you can check what you've typed before saving.

5. Your router isn't blocking new devices

Some routers use MAC address filtering to control which devices can connect. If yours does, add your Friendship Lamp's MAC ID to the approved list. You'll find the MAC ID on the label on the bottom of the lamp, or in the LuvLink app.

Where to find your Wi-Fi details

Your network name and password are usually printed on your router's label, or you can find them in your device's Wi-Fi settings. If anything's unclear, your internet service provider can confirm the details.

Offline status indicator

If your lamp loses its Wi-Fi connection, it glows a dim red light. In this state it won't respond to touch or receive colour updates. Follow your lamp's setup guide to reconnect it.
