The Wi-Fi Network List Is Empty During Setup
You have the lamp in setup mode and the app is asking you to choose a Wi-Fi network — but the list is empty, or your network is not in it. Work through the steps below in order. If the list is still empty at the end, please contact us rather than keep retrying: an empty list that does not recover is something we need to look at.
First, check the network itself
Friendship Lamps join 2.4GHz networks. If your router broadcasts 2.4GHz and 5GHz under the same name, or is set to 5GHz only, the lamp may have nothing it can see. Your internet provider can tell you how your network is configured.
Hidden networks will also not appear in the list, because nothing can scan for them.
Then try these, in order
- Move the lamp closer to the router for setup. You can move it back afterwards.
- Power cycle the lamp. Unplug it, wait 10 seconds, plug it back in, and put it into setup mode again.
- Restart the router. Turn its Wi-Fi off for 10 seconds, restart it, then plug the lamp back in. The lamp should turn blue and then dim red.
- Close and reopen the LuvLink app, then start setup again from the beginning.
If the list is still empty
Please contact our support team and tell us:
- Your lamp's MAC ID, from the label on the base
- Your LuvLink account email address
- Whether the list is completely empty, or shows other networks but not yours
That last detail matters more than it sounds: a list showing other people's networks but not yours points at the network, while a list showing nothing at all points at the lamp. Telling us which one you are seeing saves a round of questions and gets you an answer faster.
On a college, hotel or workplace network?
Networks that ask you to accept terms or sign in on a web page cannot be joined directly by the lamp. See our guidance on connecting in those environments — a phone hotspot is the usual way through.
You might also see this described as
Different places describe this same problem differently, so you may have seen it called:
- The Wi-Fi network showing as nil, or "WiFi Network is Nil"
- No networks found, or an empty network list
- The lamp not finding or not detecting Wi-Fi
- The network list showing other networks but not yours
They are all the same situation, and the steps above apply to all of them.
