Help! My Friendship Lamp Is Stuck on Purple!

A purple glow is normal — it means your lamp is installing a firmware update. But if it stays purple for a long time, the update has hit a snag. This guide walks you through getting it moving again.

Why the lamp turns purple

Purple means the lamp is installing an update, which is completely normal. If it lingers on purple well past a few minutes, the update process has run into a problem and the lamp needs a nudge.

How to fix it

  1. Turn off your Wi-Fi at the router, then unplug your Friendship Lamp and plug it back in. The lamp should turn blue and then dim red. (Dim red means it's back in Wi-Fi setup mode.)
  2. Once the lamp shows dim red, open the LuvLink App Setup Guide and connect the lamp to a mobile hotspot instead of your home Wi-Fi. This rules out a temporary issue with your home network.
  3. If the lamp connects successfully to the hotspot, turn your home Wi-Fi back on and turn the hotspot off, then try connecting the lamp to your home Wi-Fi again.

On a college, public, or shared network?

Those networks work differently and often need your lamp registered first. Follow Connecting Your LuvLink Friendship Lamp at College for the extra steps.
