My Lamp Randomly Turns On!

Is your lamp lighting up when you don't expect it to? It's almost always one of a few simple things: a typo in your GroupID, a dodgy power adapter, the Multi-Color Feature being switched on, or someone else in your group tapping their lamp. Work through the checks below to pinpoint the cause.

Check your GroupID

A small typo — an extra space, a wrong letter, or an uppercase character where it should be lowercase — can cause your lamp to behave unexpectedly.

  1. Open the LuvLink App.
  2. Go to your Friendship Lamp's settings (the cog wheel).
  3. Open the GroupID section and make sure the GroupID is entered exactly the same way on every lamp in your group.

For a detailed walkthrough, see Checking Your GroupID.

Check your power source

Your lamp came with a USB cord to connect to a power source. If the lamp is acting up, try a different power adapter. A quality, brand-name adapter — like the one you use for your mobile phone — is all you need.

You can also plug your lamp into a PC or Mac, which provides a cleaner, more stable power source. If it behaves normally on your computer, the problem is most likely your power adapter.

Check if the Multi-Color Feature is on

If the GroupID and power source both check out, open the Animations Settings in the app and see whether the Multi-Color Feature is enabled.

This is a group setting, so it applies to every lamp connected to the same GroupID.

When it's on, your lamp will show the colours of everyone in your group who has touched their lamp or sent their colour through the app. Choosing a new colour for yourself and sending it to the group adds it into the mix too.

What looks like random, "crazy" colours is often just the Multi-Color Feature doing exactly what it's supposed to do — someone in your group may have switched it on without realising.

Check your group activity

It's worth checking in with the other people in your group. Has someone been tapping their lamp, or sending a virtual touch through the LuvLink App? A quick message to ask if anyone has been tapping at that time can solve the mystery fast.
