The Lamp Will Not Accept My Wi-Fi Password

Your lamp can see your Wi-Fi network and you have entered the password, but it will not join — or it fails part-way and returns to dim red. Here is what is worth checking.

Check the password carefully

Wi-Fi passwords are case sensitive. It is worth typing it somewhere you can read it back before entering it in the app, since the field hides what you type. Watch for a capital letter at the start that your phone's keyboard added on its own.

Check the network band

Friendship Lamps join 2.4GHz networks. If your router broadcasts both bands under one name, the lamp may be trying to join the 5GHz one. Your internet provider can split them or tell you the 2.4GHz name.

Give it time before deciding it failed

The lamp cycles through several colours while it connects. Wait for it to settle before starting again — restarting setup part-way through is a common reason it never completes.

If it still will not join

  1. Unplug the lamp for 10 seconds.
  2. Turn your router's Wi-Fi off for 10 seconds and restart it.
  3. Plug the lamp back in and wait for dim red.
  4. Run setup again.

If it still fails, contact us with your lamp's MAC ID from the base and your LuvLink account email, and we can look at the lamp from our side.

Networks that need a sign-in page

If you are on a college, hotel or workplace network that asks you to accept terms in a browser, the lamp cannot get past that page — there is nowhere for it to tap "accept". A phone hotspot is the usual way through.

Depending on where you see the message, this same problem may appear as:

  • Authentication failed, or the lamp being unable to authenticate
  • Incorrect or wrong password
  • The lamp connecting and then dropping straight back to dim red
  • The network being saved but never joined

The steps above apply to all of them.
